Fishing charters in Marathon FL bring something new to the table every day. Literally. With lots of big catches and hook n’ cookers, this month’s fishing report is going to cover the Atlantic Ocean from the reef to offshore in the bay waters of the Gulf of Mexico.
Offshore fishing in Marathon this month has produced dolphin or Mahi-mahi and much shallower water is the normal he caught. Trolling just off the edge of the reef there has been a good bite of wahoo. If you’ve never caught one , it can be line sizzling time! At the marathon humps the blackfin tuna have been plentiful but right behind them are the big blue water sharks looking for an easy meal. So if you didn’t bring them in fast you were feeding the man in the gray suit.
Moving in a little closer on the reef. What a month for the anglers on my Marathon reef fishing charters! The bite for yellowtail snapper and mutton snapper on the deeper water wrecks have been very good. Catching our limit of nice size yellowtail snapper and big black and gag and red grouper on the bottom has filled the cooler almost every trip.
Going back and fishing the wrecks in the Gulf of Mexico the fishing has been hot, with easy limit of big Mangrove snappers and grouper have made for some very fun fishing trips. The Gulf of Mexico is a great place to fish anytime but if it’s a little too windy to fish the Atlantic the gulf side is always a great alternative. This is the time of year when the cobia start showing up and make it even more exciting. Hooking into a 15 pound to 100 pound eating machine is an absolute blast no matter how much you fish, also with large schools of big Jack Cravelle and permits sometimes on the wrecks you never know what you’re in for. Sharks and Goliath grouper a.k.a. jewfish have also been very hungry and willing to bite. The sharks we target are not big slow-moving sharks, they are big fast-moving sharks which will test the skills of any advanced angler but at any skill level they aren’t absolute blast!!!
